Betty Mwangi is a results-oriented and self-driven leader with a proven track record in developing and growing businesses. Her key areas of expertise span Strategy leadership in Digital Financial Services, Innovation thought leadership, and Strategic Partnership development.
She has strong skills in people management, relationship building, and business development. She is fluent in multiple aspects of analytical data mining and management to design ICT strategies across a global community.
Betty is an engineer with over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications, insurance, pharmaceutical, and education industries and has worked in 26 African countries. She was recognized as one of the Top 10 most influential women in the mobile telecommunication industry by MCI (Mobile Communications International) and named twice as one of the Top 20 most powerful women in Africa.
Betty is the Executive Director of Mount Kenya Academy an outstanding educational institution that consists of a Primary and secondary school and offers CBC, 8-4-4, and IGCSE curricula with over 600 pupils.
Betty is also the current CEO/ Founder of Digital Den Consultancy Ltd.
Betty previously served as the Chief Executive Officer for Jumia Kenya, (NYSE: JMIA) the leading E-commerce platform in Africa. She oversaw the 3 core businesses: e-commerce (Jumia), food delivery (Jumia Food) & fin-tech (JumiaPay). Jumia had more than 100,000 active sellers with 1.1B visits in 2021.
Prior to Jumia, Betty served as the Group Commercial Director at Britam Holdings Plc for 5 years. The Commercial Division was tasked with the distribution of General Insurance, Life, and Asset Management solutions through 3000 financial Advisors, 30 Branches, Bancassurance, and Digital and Direct Channels. Betty was also tasked with driving Innovation at Britam.
Betty also served as the Director, of Financial Services for Safaricom PLC for 9 years, holding several roles including Innovation and New product
